The poverty focused work in Muncie has been operating since 2005. Now the oldest Circles initiatives in the country, the Muncie operation was hosting weekly meetings and doing training before the national model was formalized.
An open Overcoming Poverty Together (OPT) meeting was started in March 2006 and the first matched Circles began shortly after. The Circles Cafe sessions continue weekly for people matched into Circles, waiting to be matched, in training for participation or interested in becoming involved in the process. The Thursday night sessions, held in the basement fellowship hall at First Baptist Church, 309 E. Adams, feature childcare and a program and/or discussion.
On the fourth Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. there is an overview session at First Baptist Church for people interested in knowing more about becoming a Circle Leader or an Ally.
